Science is upside down. I want to stay upright.

I am currently a graduate student at a big research university in the biomedical sciences. I would like to use this blog to share information, thoughts, and recommendations based on the crazy world of science, health, and everything else that crosses my spectrum. You will notice my discomfort in my chosen field, but persevere with me, as discomfort can often guide us to where we need to be.

??What do you mean?? Or are you just venting into space? :)
A little bit of both, Jennifer.
I think that we need to be more aware, both as consumers of scientific knowledge and producers of it that it is, after all, a business. There are many ethical issues involved in scientific research and results presentation that is not properly distilled to the public. Also, the division of biomedical research into specialized divisions can lead research to be narrowly focused in those fields, while more interdiscplinary and holistic ideas may get lost.
Oh yes, I don't envy your position, but am very thankful that someone with your keen sense of ethics is braving the scene.
This is one of the reasons why I homeschool. I want my children to be able to ask questions and to think for themselves. My hope for them is that they will not be snowed by the "packaging" or presentation, but will know what resources they can use to find information and to know how to find that information.
Thank you for your blog, your voice is needed!
